Therapy for LGBTQIA+ adults in Idaho, including those navigating identity, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, kink-allied, and sex-positive relationships. Online across Idaho, with in-person sessions in Boise by request.
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Counseling
Many of my clients come to therapy because they're tired of explaining themselves. Tired of editing what they say, who they mention, or how they describe their relationships. Tired of being the educator in the room before they can be the client. You don't have to do that here.
I work with LGBTQIA+ adults across Idaho: gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, and everyone whose identity doesn't fit a tidy label. Many of my clients are also navigating non-traditional relationship structures, including ethical non-monogamy (ENM) and polyamory, or are part of sex-positive and kink-allied communities. If something needs explaining, I'll ask. Curiosity isn't the same as ignorance, and I'd rather get something right than pretend to know more than I do.
What Brings People In
The presenting issue is often anxiety, depression, or a low-grade exhaustion that doesn't have an obvious cause. Underneath that, the real work is usually about something else:
The cost of staying closeted, partially out, or out in some spaces and not others
Family that didn't make room for who you are, and the grief that comes with that
Questioning a sexuality or gender identity you thought was settled
The stress of disclosing a relationship structure to people who don't have a frame for it
The slow weight of daily calculations about safety, language, and how much of yourself to bring into any given room
Religious upbringing that taught you your identity was a problem to solve
For clients in ENM, polyamorous, or kink-allied relationships, therapy is often the first place where the structure itself isn't the problem to be solved. Together, we can talk about jealousy, communication, identity, sex, or family-of-origin patterns without first having to justify how you've chosen to relate.
How We’ll Work
My approach is person-centered, which means I treat you as the expert on your own life. I'm not here to push you toward a label, an identity, or a relationship structure you haven't chosen.
Together, we'll trace the patterns back to where they started: family, religion, earlier relationships, the messages you absorbed about who you were supposed to be. From there, the work is figuring out what you want to keep, what you want to put down, and what kind of life feels like it actually fits.
I bring my own lived experience to the work, as a gay man who grew up in a small Texas town, in a religious family, in a culture that didn't have language for who I was. I won't pretend to know your specific story, but I won't be learning the basics on your time either.
